Undergraduate Students

Under Sheng-Xue Xie and Dr. Candan Tamerler

I’m an international student from India. I’m currently in the first semester of my junior year studying mechanical engineering. I have been in Dr. Tamerler’s lab for the past year.

Lab Assistant
LEarned Hall, Room 5109

Have been working with the IBER since May 2017 as a lab assistant. Currently a junior from Overland Park, Kansas pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

B.S. in Mechancial Engineering

Tony Raper has completed his coursework toward a B.S. in mechanical engineering with a biomechanics concentration and is working toward his pre-dentistry coursework to attend dental school. Under the guidance of Dr. Misra and alongside Mr. Sarikaya and Dr. Song, Tony is researching the mechanics of the dentin-composite interface. This research will advance dental technology and could improve the lifespan of dental composites.

Research Assistant, Dr. Tamerler, Chemical & Petrolum Engineering Student

Matthew Kavanaugh is a senior undergraduate student, majoring in Chemical Engineering with a Biomedical Concentration. For the past three years, he has worked in Dr. Tamerler’s lab, helping produce and investigate the characteristics and applications of novel biomaterials. His specific work deals with surface characterization of proteins via Atomic Force Microscopy, and he hopes to expand into working with Quartz Crystal Microbalances or Surface Plasmon Resonance to investigate protein-binding kinetics.
